Designer stores, fine jewelry, galleries and a long lunch on the Rodeo Drive of the Desert.
Our home street
A day dressed for town.
A bag in a window, a gallery you meant to spend ten minutes in, a lunch that deserves another course. Come with a few places in mind and leave room to be distracted.
El Paseo is Palm Desert’s main shopping street: about a mile of designer stores, jewelers, galleries and restaurants under the palms, with the Santa Rosa Mountains behind. It’s a different place from downtown Palm Springs and Palm Canyon Drive, twenty-odd minutes up the valley, and calmer: low buildings, outdoor tables and room to slow down.
Our office is on El Paseo, at 73350, so this is the street we walk to lunch on. What follows is how we’d spend a day here.
Pick a few stores you want, then leave time for the windows you didn’t plan on.
The middle of the street
The Gardens on El Paseo
The designer anchor: Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Tiffany & Co. and Saks Fifth Avenue, with Eileen Fisher, Johnny Was and Vince for a broader browse, around garden courtyards with restaurants upstairs.
Ralph Lauren, Oliver Peoples, Connie Roberson and Sarit, with Athleta and Vuori for the morning walk. For the house, RH Palm Desert, Roche Bobois and The Upper Crust.
The best finds are often in the independent shops, jewelers and galleries strung along the blocks between the two centers, Trina Turk’s boutique among them. This is where a familiar label meets something you won’t see at home.
Looking for a particular piece, size or appointment? Call the store before you go rather than counting on what’s in stock. A small tabletop piece from a design store makes a better souvenir than another T-shirt.
Listed by Rolex as an Official Rolex Retailer, and the stop for a watch-focused visit. Ask about appointments; a listing is no promise a particular watch is in the case. Closed Sundays.
A local jeweler since 1998, with custom design and a jeweler on site. For an anniversary, a redesign or a piece with a story, this is the conversation to have.
Galleries are the best reason to come even if fashion isn’t. Choose two and give each time for a second look; ask what’s just arrived and who the team is excited about.
CODA Gallery, at 73400 El Paseo, Suite B1, has shown contemporary artists on the street since 1987. Melissa Morgan Fine Art is at 73660 El Paseo, with its sculpture garden a short walk east at 73785; it’s open Tuesday to Saturday, 11 to 5, and Sunday and Monday by appointment.
If a piece stays with you, ask about size, shipping and installation, and bring a photo of the wall at home.
One gallery that holds your attention is enough.
In season
El Paseo Art Walk
Gallery evenings along the street during the season, with the galleries open late. Check the current dates before you plan around one.
On the median
Sculpture on the street
The city’s El Paseo Sculpture Exhibition sets large works down the median and changes every couple of years. Between shows it can be bare; when it’s up, cross at the signals to see it.
Free · Five minutes away
Faye Sarkowsky Sculpture Garden
Four acres of sculpture run by the Palm Springs Art Museum at 72-567 Highway 111, free from sunrise to sunset. A lovely detour after lunch.
Our picks by occasion. Book dinner first if you’re celebrating or bringing a group, then let the day lead to it.
Brunch · 8 a.m.–2 p.m. daily
Wilma & Frieda
Comfort food with a playful streak, upstairs at The Gardens (73575 El Paseo, Suite 2310). Start the shopping day here. There’s a Palm Springs branch too, so pick Palm Desert in your map.
A California bistro at 73100 El Paseo: salads, pasta and seafood, something for everyone. Opens at 10 on weekends; reservations and walk-ins both welcome.
Italian at 73520 El Paseo: homemade pasta, wood-oven pizza and seafood, for a day with time for a proper meal and conversation. Monday to Saturday, 11 to 9.
Hours from each restaurant’s own site, checked October 29, 2026. For the rest of your stay, our restaurant guide covers the whole valley.
You don’t need to cover it all
How to spend a day on El Paseo
A relaxed order to bend around your stores and reservations. Our idea, not a fixed route.
01
Brunch first
Wilma & Frieda opens at 8. Most stores open later, so check the ones you want before you set a start time.
02
The late morning for your priorities
A few designer stores or a jewelry appointment, while you’re fresh. Keep the bags manageable.
03
Lunch, then art
Porta Via or il Corso, then CODA or Melissa Morgan. Build the route around gallery hours.
04
Home before dinner
Back to the pool for an hour, change, and return for Pacifica, Eddie V’s or Mastro’s.
When the shops close, make an evening of it.
Short on time? Choose shopping and lunch, or galleries and dinner. For a garden morning before it, Sunnylands is free and about 15 minutes away in Rancho Mirage, and The Living Desert is a few minutes south on Portola Avenue.
Spring 2027
Two March events worth planning around
Back to back at The Gardens, with separate tickets.
Fashion Week El Paseo
March 12–17, 2027. Runway shows and fashion events in tents at The Gardens. Pick the night you want and buy direct from the organizer.
Event days change parking at The Gardens; follow the organizer’s directions and leave time around dinner. More dates in our events guide.
The practical part
Parking, getting around & hours
Parking on El Paseo is free, on the street and in the lots behind the storefronts. Park near your first stop rather than navigating to “El Paseo”: the street is long, and the two shopping centers are a good walk apart.
The city’s free Courtesy Carts run up and down the street, Sunday to Thursday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday and Saturday noon to 8 p.m., per Discover Palm Desert. Check before you count on one, and allow for the walk back to the car.
There’s no single opening time. A dinner reservation doesn’t mean the boutiques next door will still be open.
It’s an outdoor street. In warm months, shorten the walks and duck into the galleries. Our weather guide has the season.
Shoes you can walk a mile in.
Some restaurants are upstairs. If step-free access matters, ask when you book.
Big purchase? Ask about shipping; many stores and galleries will send it home.
Cross at the signals; El Paseo is a busy street with a planted median.
A few helpful answers
El Paseo FAQs
Is El Paseo in Palm Springs or Palm Desert?
Palm Desert, about 20 minutes down valley from downtown Palm Springs. It’s a different street from Palm Springs’ Palm Canyon Drive.
Why is it called the Rodeo Drive of the Desert?
For the run of designer stores, fine jewelers and galleries in one walkable mile, much like Beverly Hills’ famous street, with palms and mountains instead.
What luxury stores are on El Paseo?
Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Tiffany & Co. and Saks Fifth Avenue at The Gardens, Ralph Lauren and Oliver Peoples at The Shops, plus independent boutiques and jewelers between them.
Where should we eat on El Paseo?
Wilma & Frieda for brunch, Porta Via or il Corso for lunch, and Pacifica, Eddie V’s or Mastro’s for dinner. Book dinner ahead in season.
Is parking on El Paseo free?
Yes, on the street and in the lots behind the shops. Posted limits still apply, and event days change things at The Gardens.
Is El Paseo worth it if we’re not shopping?
Yes. The galleries, the sculpture and a long lunch make a good afternoon on their own.
How long should we allow?
We suggest two to three hours for a browse and a meal, or most of a day for shopping, galleries and dinner with a break in between.
When is the best time to visit?
October to May, when it’s comfortable to walk and the carts and art walks are running. In summer, go in the morning or for dinner.
A beautiful place to come home to
Make Palm Desert your desert address.
Breakfast on the patio, a few hours in town, and back to your own pool before dinner. Our Palm Desert homes are minutes from El Paseo, and our team is on the street itself, happy to help plan the rest of your stay.
