Spend a morning inside a 1950s house in Palm Springs and you come out looking at everything differently: the shade under a deep overhang, the pattern a breeze-block wall throws across a floor, the way a modest room opens all the way to the garden. Then you go back to your own house in the desert, slide the doors open, and live in the idea for the rest of the afternoon.

Modernism Week 2027 runs Thursday, February 11 to Sunday, February 21. October's short edition has just wrapped up; February is the big one, eleven days of house tours, walks, talks, films and parties across Greater Palm Springs. Come for a long weekend or settle in for the week. The trick is the same either way: book the few things you really want, and leave room around them.

The dates, and what is announced so far

The festival dates are set and the calendar for getting tickets is out. The event-by-event program comes next:

  • Sunday, October 25, 2026: the February schedule preview goes live.
  • Sunday, November 1, 2026, at noon Pacific: festival tickets go on sale.
  • February 11–15, 2027: Intersect Palm Springs, the art and design fair.
  • February 12–15, 2027: the Palm Springs Modernism Show, opening with a Friday night party.
  • February 11–21, 2027: Modernism Week itself.

Tickets are sold event by event on modernismweek.com; there is no single pass. The featured houses, speakers and parties are announced with the program, so plan around this February's listings rather than last year's: a tour you loved in 2026 may be back in a different form, on a different day, or not at all.

The Palm Springs Modernism Show

Four days of midcentury and modern design under one roof at the Palm Springs Convention Center, and the place to go when a house tour leaves you wanting the lamp, the credenza or the chair. The show has already published its hours:

  • Friday, February 12: opening night party, 6–9 p.m.
  • Saturday, February 13: 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
  • Sunday, February 14: 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
  • Monday, February 15: 10 a.m.–4 p.m.

The Friday party is the show’s own, not the festival’s opening night. Give yourself a proper afternoon if you like to look closely, and if something big catches your eye, ask the dealer about measurements and shipping before you fall for it.

Intersect Palm Springs

Intersect, the art and design fair, is in the same building, February 11–15: an opening preview on Thursday, February 11, then general admission Friday through Monday. Tickets and hours are not out yet. With both fairs at the Convention Center, one afternoon can cover the two — which is the best argument for the first weekend.

How to plan the week

The program sorts into house tours, bus tours, walking tours, talks and films, and the evening events. A good trip takes a little of each.

Book the houses first

When the program goes live, pick the two or three buildings you most want to see inside and book those before anything else; the small house tours are the ones that sell out. Read what each ticket includes — an interior visit, an exterior view and a neighborhood walk are very different experiences — and check the steps, ages and photo rules if they matter to your group.

Get the overview, then go on foot

A bus tour connects the neighborhoods; a walking tour is where the details are. Do one of each if the dates allow. Before you arrive, the free Modernism Week Digital Guide on Bloomberg Connects has the stories behind the buildings, virtual tours of private houses and recorded talks — a good way to decide what you want to see.

Leave room for a talk, a film or a party

After a morning on your feet, an afternoon talk or film is a rest that teaches you something. And the evening program is not a footnote: a lot of what makes this festival what it is happens at the parties. Check when an event finishes before you book dinner after it.

Which days to come

February 11–15, the opening stretch. The festival, the Modernism Show and Intersect all overlap, Valentine’s Day is Sunday the 14th and Presidents’ Day is Monday the 15th. It is the fullest weekend of the eleven, and the one when houses and restaurants book first.

February 16–18, midweek. Slower breakfasts and a few tours spread over several days. Let the program decide; midweek is a pace, not a promise of shorter lines.

February 19–21, the closing weekend. Right if the events you want fall late in the festival. The design fairs are over by then.

For a first visit, three or four nights is the sweet spot: an arrival day, two or three days of tours, and one evening when the house is the plan.

A three-day rhythm

  • Day one: a bus tour for the overview, a long lunch and one house you have been waiting to see inside. Keep the first evening easy.
  • Day two: a walking tour, then the Modernism Show if your dates line up, or a talk or film. Time to change before dinner.
  • Day three: your second-choice house, a little vintage shopping, and a late afternoon back at the pool.

Before or after the festival: the architecture tour

Arriving early or staying on? Modernism Week also runs its Architecture Tours through the season, October to May, as a separate mini-coach tour. The closest dates either side of the festival are Wednesday, February 10 and Monday, February 22, 2027; there are none during it.

The tour leaves at 9:30 a.m. from 230 N. Museum Drive in Palm Springs and runs two and a half hours. Tickets are $130, or $143.36 with fees. It is designed for adults, so no children, and it is not wheelchair accessible.

Where to stay for Modernism Week

The obvious answer is a midcentury hotel, and it is a good one. The better one is to spend the day admiring how these houses work and then go back to one: the five o’clock light, the doors open to the pool, a kitchen for the morning after the party, and no one else on the tour.

Our Architectural Homes collection is the place to start: the houses in our portfolio where the low rooflines, the glass and the garden coming indoors are still the point. Most tours leave from Palm Springs, so staying in town keeps the mornings easy; our Palm Springs vacation rentals have more. Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells and La Quinta work well too, with a short drive in — our guide to choosing between the desert towns helps.

Want one evening entirely at home? Ask about groceries waiting when you arrive, or a private chef.

Good to know

  • Take a car. Events run the length of the valley, and the meeting point is often a shuttle stop rather than the house. Save each ticket’s instructions on your phone.
  • Leave real time between bookings. Thirty to forty-five minutes between nearby events, more across the valley. Two tours an hour apart at opposite ends of it is how people miss the second.
  • Pack for a whole winter day. February averages about 74°F in the afternoon and 50°F at night, and it is one of the wetter months. Comfortable shoes, sunglasses, layers and a light rain shell; our Palm Springs weather guide has more.
  • These are people’s homes. Photo rules vary, floors are original, and the neighbors live there the rest of the year.

For lunch between tours, our restaurant guide will find something near the next stop. Long lunches belong in the plan too.
