760 201 1009Christmas in Palm Springs can start with presents beneath the tree and turn into a long lunch on the patio. There are lights to see, a parade to plan around and mountain views waiting outside the glass doors. But the real pleasure is having your favorite people together in a beautiful home, with enough room in the day to enjoy them.
For a Christmas vacation in Greater Palm Springs, think beyond December 25. Some of the best holiday events happen early in the month, while others carry the celebration into the new year. Choose your dates around the experiences you want, then let the house become the place where your own traditions unfold.
You can travel light and still have a Christmas tree. Desert Luxury Estates can arrange Christmas decorations and a tree for your stay, so the holiday atmosphere is part of arriving. Tell us what you have in mind, from a quietly elegant tree to a more festive setting for the family, and we can discuss the setup, timing and pricing for your chosen home.
Make the request while you are planning the trip. Share your arrival date, guest count and any traditions you would like to keep. If Christmas morning means a particular breakfast, or Christmas Eve is your big dinner, that is useful to know too. Our concierge services include grocery pre-stocking and private-chef arrangements; availability and costs are confirmed for your dates.
The goal is simple: open the door, put down the bags and feel that the holiday has begun. A few favorite ornaments or the family stockings can still come with you. Everything else can be a conversation before you leave home.

The appeal of Palm Springs in December is the chance to spend more of the holiday outside. Our Palm Springs weather guide lists a December average high of about 69°F. Mornings and nights are cooler, and winter weather can bring rain or wind, so check the forecast as your trip approaches.
Plan lunch for the pleasant part of the afternoon and keep an indoor table ready. Pack sunglasses, comfortable walking shoes and layers for evening light displays. If swimming is on the wish list, confirm your home’s pool-heating arrangements. A trip up the Tramway calls for a separate mountain-weather check and warmer clothing.
You do not have to abandon the Christmas menu. Keep the dish everyone looks forward to, add something fresh from the grill or a bright citrus salad, and let dessert stretch into another hour of conversation. If you prefer to dine out, use our restaurant guide to begin your search, then confirm Christmas Eve or Christmas Day service and the holiday menu directly.

These are the holiday outings worth considering for a 2026 stay. The dates below were checked October 15, 2026; use the linked organizers for current tickets, entry arrangements and updates before making plans. A December visit and a Christmas-week visit can have quite different calendars.
Saturday, December 5, 2026, at 5:45 p.m. · Palm Springs
The Festival of Lights Parade brings illuminated floats, marching bands and oversized balloons to Palm Canyon Drive. The published route runs from Ramon Road to Tachevah Road, and admission is free. It is a good reason to choose an early-December getaway if the parade is high on your family’s list.
Make this the evening’s main plan. Have dinner early, allow time for parking and street closures, and bring a layer for watching after dark. Agree on a meeting place before the group spreads out along the route.
Select nights November 24–December 30, 2026, 6–9 p.m. · Palm Desert
WildLights at The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens is the walk-through choice: light displays, walk-through lighted exhibits, a 30-foot Christmas tree and a G-scale model train decked out for the holidays. Santa is there for photos through December 24, and the Grinch takes over December 26–30. Book the specific night you want. The zoo is closed on Christmas Day, and December 17 is an adults-only, 18-and-over night.
For families, choose an appropriate date and leave time for an unhurried walk; last admission is 8:30 p.m. WildLights is an evening ticket of its own, separate from daytime zoo admission, and it runs on listed nights only, so check the organizer’s calendar rather than assuming it operates every evening.
November 20, 2026–January 2, 2027 · Empire Polo Club, Indio
Magic of Lights turns the outing into a drive-through experience, with animated holiday scenes viewed from your vehicle. It is a useful alternative when your group prefers less walking. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., closing at 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Admission is sold by vehicle category, and ticket types have different day restrictions.
Check the entry instructions, current hours and the ticket that fits your visit. Queue time can change the evening, so avoid placing a tightly timed dinner reservation immediately afterward. This is an easy candidate for a separate Indio outing rather than another stop after a downtown Palm Springs event.

Friday, December 4, 2026, beginning at 5:15 p.m. · Frances Stevens Park
Visit Palm Springs lists the city’s free tree-lighting celebration with caroling, children’s crafts, Santa, cookies and hot cocoa. It pairs naturally with the following evening’s parade for an early-December visit. Check the city tourism holiday calendar for the final program.
Thursdays, December 3, 10, 17 and 24, 2026, 6–10 p.m. · Downtown Palm Springs
The Thursday-evening VillageFest street fair mixes arts, crafts, food and entertainment along Palm Canyon Drive. The tourism office’s 2026 holiday schedule lists December market evenings, including Christmas Eve, with different seasonal activities on different nights. Check the program if seeing Santa or Mrs. Claus is the priority.
Leave room in the suitcase for something small and local. Browsing together can be the outing; you do not need to finish the entire shopping list in one evening.
December 18–21, 2026 · Palm Springs
The Air Museum’s 2026 program lists Snowtopia: 50 tons of real snow on the tarmac with a separate area for children five and under, a holiday train ride, s’mores over firepits, food trucks and characters. Santa arrives as part of the event. The museum’s event listing says a separate ticket is required and ticket information is pending. Follow the museum’s calendar for current dates and ticket availability.
Bring layers for the evening and clothes that can handle snow play. A tourism roundup lists different dates, December 20–23; we have followed the museum, which runs the event.
2026 date still tentative · Palm Springs
This seasonal tradition offers a self-guided look at decorated boutique hotels and inns. Visit Palm Springs currently lists December 10 at 4 p.m. as to be confirmed. Keep it on your wish list, then verify the date, participating properties and starting point before building an evening around it.
The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway climbs to Mountain Station at 8,516 feet, where the setting changes dramatically from the valley floor. There are mountain views and dining at Peaks Restaurant or Pines Café. Snow is possible in winter, but conditions vary; check the mountain forecast and current operations.
The Tramway’s published schedule lists an 8 a.m. first departure for December 19, 2026–January 3, 2027. Confirm dining arrangements separately, especially for Christmas Day. Ask about the current holiday menu and reservations before planning a mountain-top Christmas meal.
For the parade and tree lighting: an early-December stay puts December 4 and 5 at the heart of the trip. Add one leisurely lunch or shopping afternoon, rather than trying to visit every light display that same weekend.
For a family stay before Christmas: December 18–21 aligns with the museum’s published Snowtopia dates. Compare the WildLights calendar and any age restrictions before selecting another evening outing.
For Christmas week itself: make the home your main event. You can plan a Christmas Eve market visit if the published schedule holds, spend Christmas Day around your own table, and choose another available evening for lights. The downtown parade will already have happened, and WildLights will be closed on December 25.
A simple rhythm works well: one reservation or outing, one meal worth lingering over, and a generous stretch of unscheduled time. People who want a quiet afternoon can stay home without feeling they have missed the trip.
Start with the people staying together, then consider the outings. A downtown-focused Palm Springs visit has a different rhythm from a stay built around Palm Desert dining and WildLights, or Indio’s drive-through lights. Our guide to Palm Springs, Palm Desert and La Quinta helps compare the areas, including Rancho Mirage and Indian Wells.
When browsing DLE vacation homes, look beyond the bedroom count. Picture Christmas morning in the living room, lunch around the table and the evening when some people want a film while others want to talk. A comfortable indoor gathering space matters even on a trip inspired by patio weather.
For families still choosing between the two big winter gatherings, our Thanksgiving in Palm Springs guide offers another way to bring everyone together. Christmas adds its own pleasures: the first look at the tree, the evening lights and a morning that nobody needs to rush.

December afternoons are often mild, with an average high around 69°F in our Palm Springs weather guide. Nights are cooler, and rain or wind can change outdoor plans. Pack layers and check the forecast for your actual dates.
